Fold – A graceful staircase

This project was created based on a cooperation between LINAK Finland and the Aalto University, School of Arts, Design and Architecture in Helsinki, Finland. The idea was to design a novel piece of furniture where movement by LINAK^® electric actuators, would play a role in its functionality. Five works were chosen to be manufactured as prototypes. One of these was Fold.

Fold is a graceful and delicate staircase that can be installed or mounted on a wall. The staircase is closed when not in use. When opened, “Fold” creates access to the next floor. The project was presented in Helsinki Design Week 2015.
