Obeliski – A clock with adjustable cylinders

Obeliski is a clock that contains nested telescopic cylinders programmed to move in a cylinder dimension of 55 mm per hour. Thus each cylinder symbolyses a clock hour. The project was presented in Helsinki Design Week 2015 and again at Stockholm Furniture Fair 2016.

“Obeliski” was created based on a cooperation between LINAK Finland and the Aalto University, School of Arts, Design and Architecture in Helsinki, Finland.

The idea was to design a novel piece of furniture where movement by LINAK® electric actuators, would play a role in its functionality. Five works were chosen to be manufactured as prototypes. One of these was Obeliski.
